Shale Creek Golf Club is a recognizable landscape in Medina. Its rolling greenery and clubhouse complete with a scenic patio overlook that offers a stunning view of Ohio sunsets have helped solidify it as a must-see destination in the golfing community. If you are not a golfer, though, you can still capitalize on the resort-like milieu to take a break from the stress of life.
Did you know?
Shale Creek is not just one of the highest rated golf courses in the state, it also is home to The Granite Grille, a full service restaurant and bar that is also open to the public.
“Our facility certainly stands apart from the public golf courses many people are used to visiting,” says Scott Schreck, President of Granite Golf Properties. “Much of this is because of the clubhouse facility and the Granite Grille Restaurant. It feels much more ‘resort’ than ‘public golf course.’ In addition, we have a tremendous service staff trained to provide our guests with a world class experience when visiting for a day of golf or a meal at The Granite Grille. That combination makes us much more than your typical facility.”
The Granite Grille is open year round.
Though the golf course closes in the winter off-season, the clubhouse and restaurant remain open to serve you. In fact, this past February, the Granite Grille debuted a brand new expanded menu developed by Chef Jennifer Drumm. It is described as a healthy mix of finger foods, fresh salads, and interesting entrees with a daily twist of innovative specials.
Chef Jennifer believes that guests are quite perceptive and appreciate when care and thought are put into each dish. “I enjoy the freedom to create new and exciting specials”, says Drumm. “Our goal is to create an exceptional guest experience, and become their regular dining destination.”
The food offered at the Granite Grille, which opened in May of 2013, features food that is fresh, handmade, and customizable. It is described as “guest friendly and non-intimidating,” and of course, delicious.
The creativity of Chef Drumm combined with the beautiful dining space make the Granite Grille perfect for a casual lunch with coworkers or a formal date night.
Shale Creek Golf Club is a great place to host events—or attend one.
“The golf course scenery and the interior space will both make beautiful backdrops for your event,” says Food and Beverage Manager Debi McNab. “We host Bridal and Baby showers, weddings, birthday parties and different corporate events. No matter the occasion, we are the perfect size for banquets that cater up to150 people. Our simple and tasteful décor has a neutral color scheme to highlight the beauty of the property and your special event.
Guests can stay inside in the ballroom or head outside to the covered patio, which seats roughly 100 and overlooks the 18th hole.
The clubhouse frequently hosts its own events, too, and you won’t want to miss them. Past dinner shows have featured music, magic, or mindreading accompanied by a gourmet buffet. This month The PopTarts, a sassy 60’s girl group, will be performing March 18.
The golf course turns 10 this year!
Though the clubhouse and grille opened in 2013, the golf course itself is quite a bit older. The course is a beautiful combination of Medina County’s natural features, including streams that cascade through the property and flow into the nearby Rocky River. Its natural terrain creates a uniquely Ohio experience, complete with a wetland and woods. In fact, its unique destination has made it a highly anticipated tourist destination for visiting out-of-state golfers.
Over the past 10 years, Shale Creek has gained quite a bit of acclaim. Many reviewers have listed it among the top 5 golf courses in the state. There is no saying what exciting milestones Shale Creek will reach over the next decade, but one thing is for sure; you will want to be a part of it.
