A well-balanced diet is important to health. That is true whether you walk on two legs or four. Many times, store-bought snacks have multiple ingredients and preservatives listed on the label. If you cannot even pronounce some of those ingredients, how can you be sure they are good for you, let alone for your four-legged best friend?
Fortunately, it is easy to make healthy treats for your dog with just a few simple and natural ingredients.Dr. Linda Randall of Cloverleaf Animal Hospital offers her favorite recipe for banana treats to bark about.
What You’ll Need:
1 large banana
1 large sweet potato, baked
½ cup natural (unsweetened) peanut butter
2 large eggs
What To Do:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine ingredients in a bowl and mix well with an electric mixer. Mix or stir until your blend is soupy.
Pour your mix onto a large cookie sheet with sides and bake for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, allow it to cool just enough that it is still warm and easy to mold. Cut the cookies into small squares. At this point you can mold them into tiny bite-sized balls or keep them as squares. Your culinary creation should be soft like a brownie.
Place them in a plastic bag and refrigerate or freeze. These make a perfect treat for your pet after a well-spent walk!
