Be Your Most Beautiful You 1

A conversation with Evangelene Brown

Evangelene Brown is the owner of Salon Evangelene, a Medina salon where the mission is to provide unparalleled beauty services by highly experienced professionals in a clean, upscale, caring and comfortable environment. Evangelene and her staff have extensive experience in making brides beautiful for their special day. Despite her busy schedule, Evangelene took some time to discuss hairstyle trends for the brides of 2016.

What are the latest bridal hairstyles this year?

Bridal hairstyle trends have definitely softened up in recent years. By softening up, I mean looser, more organic and less contrived. Elegant, yet romantic braids are part of almost every bridal style, along with soft curls. Even chignon styles have relaxed, with soft waves and braids added to revitalize a classic style.

What advice would you give a bride when choosing a hairstyle?

Brides should consider many things when choosing a style. For instance, the neckline of the dress is important — will the hair look best up or down in relation to the dress? Will the ceremony or reception be indoors or outdoors? If outside in the humid Ohio summer, an up-style is a must.

Try to find multiple views of your favorite hairstyle. Most photos just show the back, but the front and sides are just as important, if not more important. It’s essential to bring photos of two hairstyles you like and a few you don’t like so your stylist understands your likes and dislikes. Pinterest is a great place to find hairstyles, but also check the salon’s Facebook and Instagram pages, as they will have photos of their work. We recommend you narrow your choices to just two hairstyles. We’ll decide on one of those looks that we feel will look best on you. We’ll do your hair and makeup in that particular look.

Should the bride do a practice run prior to her wedding?

Yes. Our bridal stylists require a practice run two weeks before the wedding, and we include the practice run in the price for both the bridal up-styles and makeup. Bridal up-styles take a lot of time to create, so don’t think of the practice run as a chance to try out multiple hairstyles. We’ll help you choose one look and show you just how beautiful you can be on your wedding day. Bring your veil and hair ornaments to make sure it all works with your hairstyle.

What should a bride not bring to her practice run?

What not to bring? Other people. It may sound like fun to bring your sisters, your mom and BFF, but the practice run is really between just you, your hairstylist and makeup artist. Your hairstylist needs an hour of your undivided attention to create the perfect look for you.

What else should a bride think about in terms of beauty for her special day?

After the practice run is finished, wear your veil home, and try on your dress to see the look all put together. Snap some photos from multiple angles, and review them later to evaluate your entire look. This way, you can see what your guests will see, and get a preview of what your wedding photos will look like with hair, makeup, dress and veil all together. This is when you invite your sisters, mom and BFF for that girls’ get-together!

If you happen to decide that you’d like a completely different look, call your stylist immediately so that she can schedule another trial run with you. There should be no surprises the morning of your wedding.
