MedinaMade opens its doors

MedinaMade celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony in early April. An estimated 100 people were on hand to welcome the nonprofit retail gift store to the community. Attendees included Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell, Medina County Commissioner Adam Friedrick, state Sen. Larry Obhof, state Rep. Steve Hambley and county Auditor Mike Kovack. All items offered for sale are made by residents of Medina County. The store gives local artisans a retail presence and provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Young scientists tackle science, technology, engineering 
and math

STEAM Day — Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math — drew a crowd to Highland Library in March. Budding scientists enjoyed weather experiments, fingerprinting and other activities presented by the company Mad Science. The library’s community room included a swimming pool full of Legos, make-your-own marshmallow catapults and drinking straw airplanes. Students even had a chance to fly a drone.

Local author publishes history of Medina County
